Limitations After Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Laser hair removal is a long lasting and effective answer to the treatment of unwanted or excessive hair. There are some limitations after having Laser hair removal carried out.
You can return to your normal routine immediately after laser hair removal treatment, including swimming and aerobics. But for the first 24 hours, avoid the sunlight, exfoliation and tight clothing as these can irritate the treated area. If you are going to be in the sun, you should use a sunscreen to prevent sunburn or tanning, at least until the redness from the laser treatment has resolved (usually a few hours to days).
Be careful when touching the treated areas. Your hair should not be waxed or tweezed between laser hair treatment and for several weeks after the final treatment as this may stimulate hair growth. However, you may shave or trim the area.
Makeup may be used immediately after the treatments unless there is skin surface blistering. If you have sensitive skin, use a powder instead of deodorant for 24 hours to reduce skin irritation after underarm treatments. Self-tanning creams may also be used as desired. A gentle washing with soap and water is perfectly fine.
Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyper-pigmentation and hypo pigmentation. Avoid exposure to the sun for 1 month following laser machine hair removal treatment. It is recommended that a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 is used, because sun exposure increases the risk of complications with this procedure.
It is recommended using the emollients and topical corticosteroid creams for keeping the affected area moist and reducing the redness and swelling. In case there are blisters and crusting, one needs to contact the laser clinic for taking advice. Any blisters and crusting can be readily treated with daily soaks and antibiotic ointment. For severe blisters and crusting, one should not continue with the future lazer hair removal sessions.
To avoid significant bruising, do not take aspirin or other anti-inflammatory products (Anacin, Bufferin, Advil, or Nuprin) or Omega 3, 6 or 9 (Fish oil supplements) for one week after treatment. Tylenol may be used.
